We've known for a while now that Independence Day would be coming back with a sequel, but until last night, we didn't have too much detail on it. 

In a live event on set with the cast and crew present, director Roland Emmerich gave a few hints as to the story line of the new movie, as well as what the official title will be, which doesn't actually feature the number 2 at all. 

The new movie will be called Independence Day: Resurgence, which is explained by this fairly basic teaser. 

There were precious little details given about the plot itself, but as the event was streamed live from the set, there was some information garnered. It appeared to be modeled after the interior of one of the alien ships, while Emmerich tweeted an image of a prop which he's calling the Moon Tug.
