'Belfast' and 'An Cailín Ciúin' lead the nominations

The 2022 IFTA film and drama awards nominations have been announced.

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) will be awarding in 25 categories in all.

Six movies are up for Best Film. They include the multi-Oscar-nominated 'Belfast'; hairdresser comedy 'Deadly Cuts'; upcoming folk horror 'You Are Not My Mother'; sci fi feature 'Swan Song'; LGBTQ+ coming-of-age drama 'Who We Love'; and 'An Cailín Ciúin', which recently came away with two honours following its premiere at Berlinale.

Four TV series are up for best drama. They include crime dramas 'Kin' and 'Hidden Assets', which both premiered on RTÉ One last year; the second season of 'Smother', which recently aired its last episode; and 'Vikings: Valhalla', which drops this weekend on Netflix.

Both 'An Cailín Ciúin' and 'Belfast' lead the race with 10 nominations. They're followed by 'Deadly Cuts', which has 7 nominations and 'Swan Song' with 6 nominations.

IFTA are adapting a hybrid model with both virtual and in-person events around the awards. A Virtual awards event in March will be followed by an in-person industry gathering in April, for the presentation of Awards in Dublin.

The Virtual IFTA Awards show will be hosted by Deirdre O’Kane and will be broadcast on Virgin Media One on Saturday, March 12th. Details of the physical industry event in April are TBC.
