Fans have been worked into a frenzy

Could Wolverine be entering into the MCU fold for the very first time?

Take everything here with a significant pinch of salt, but Hugh Jackman is sending Marvel and MCU fans into overdrive with his recent social media activity.

The actor, who starred as the hot-headed "bub" Wolverine in nine of 20th Century Fox's 'X-Men' movies and its spin-offs previously stated that 'Logan' from 2017 would be his very final outing as the adamantium-filled hero - a character for which he holds the Guinness World Record for longest Marvel superhero, first appearing as the character in 'X-Men' in 2000.

The actor has been batting away at rumours of his return as the ferocious superhero ever since then - especially following the Disney/Fox merger. His latest post on social media, however, is all the more eyebrow-raising for Marvel fans - could he be on the return?

The 52-year-old posted an Instagram story over the past day which saw him share Wolverine fan art, created by artist Bosslogic. However, this wasn't the only image that Jackman shared.

Hugh Jackman also shared a picture of himself posing for a picture alongside MCU boss Kevin Feige. The next image on his story was a tribute to the late director Richard Donner, the husband of Lauren Shuler Donner who Jackman would have worked closely with on the 'X-Men' movies.

While this is by no means confirmation Hugh Jackman is joining the MCU, it is quite a left-of-field upload nonetheless. Feige previously stated that the X-Men will eventually join the MCU at some point in the future, but right now the focus is on establishing other characters such as Shang-Chi, The Eternals, and the Fantastic Four. Any inclusion of Jackman on that X-Men agenda was presumed dead and buried.

However, it's important to note that 'Deadpool 3' is very much still in the pipeline at Disney. With Ryan Reynolds and his team busy at work fleshing out the storyline for what is likely to be Disney's first 18+ MCU title, it'll be interesting to see if Reynolds' original vision of having Logan in the movie ever comes to light.
