You've got to love John Carpenter, if not for the fact that the guy genuinely doesn't give a toss about answering questions to anybody's satisfaction other than his own.
We interviewed him a couple of years ago and, well, it's a masterclass is answering as much as an interviewee wants to. Anyway, in a more recent interview with Den Of Geek, the question came up of a reboot of Carpenter's 1988 sci-fi classic 'They Live' and 'ol JC gave his characteristically laconic answer on the topic.
When asked how he'd refashion 'They Live' for a modern audience, Carpenter came back with this. "Well, I'm not gonna tell you about that, because it might be closer to reality than you think," he said. When pressed on the supposed remake that was due to happen, Carpenter added that "(there) was a feature film. It was a feature film called Resistance, written by, oh, the guy who did the Apes movies. Matt Reeves. But then he moved on, and so the sequel is, well, we'll see. We'll just have to see."
As evidenced ourselves, Carpenter doesn't really give out information on any of his projects unless he feels like it and his attitude on remakes is pretty blasé, to say the least. We've heard and found no other details about a potential sequel to 'They Live' other than this quote, but it feels like the perfect time for a sequel to one of the most subversive mainstream sci-fi movies ever made.
Also, who doesn't want to see another fight sequence ala Keith David and Roddy Piper?
