Valid point, well made.

While you might think to yourself that 'Beauty and the Beast' was really about seeing past prejudices to find love and so on, there's another part to this story that makes no sense whatsoever.

Namely, how was it that Gaston was overlooked whilst the Prince was the clear and obvious choice. Again, it's one of those things that you *think* is clearly explained, but it's actually not.

It's also something that EW writer Dana Schwartz has most likely wrestled with for years and, finally, managed to put together in a detailed, structured PowerPoint presentation on the topic.

It's easy to think that this is just a spicy take on a Disney classic, but when you see it all lain out with historical context, it makes a lot more sense.

Take a look.
