The Hangover and Old School director Todd Phillips has finally spoken about the biopic of the late, great John Belushi that he's been linked with helming. More or less confirming his involvement, he gave an idea as to the tone we could expect, telling MTV News:
"Our goal is to capture the spirit of Belushi, not necessarily make a straight-ahead biopic" he told the station, after citing the likes of Walk the Line and Ray as "traditional" models of the biopic format. He hopes "to make a movie that, if John Belushi saw it, he would be happy that it captured his spirit... We're trying to take a very renegade approach to who I think was one of the most renegade comedy actors of all time."
Steve Conrad, who penned Oscar nominee The Pursuit of Happyness, is currently writing the script, but Phillips admits that they haven't gotten it quite right yet. The director's latest comedy, Due Date, will see a release this side of Christmas.
