The world has gone Frankenstein mad, or so the surplus amount of Frankenstein adaptation films that are due to come out would suggest. Just recently, Pacific Rim and Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro announced that he would love to cast Benedict Cumberbatch as a lead role in his ongoing Frankenstein project.
The del Toro monster film has been in production on and off for a number of years now, but has yet to had any definite release date set as of yet. As far back as 2009 the Mexican director was reportedly doing test shoots for the flick with familiar stars with experience working alongside him such as Pan's Labyrinth star Doug Jones.Maybe his recent interest in starring Cumberbatch is down to the actor's previous experience in the role as both the monster and Dr Victor Frankenstein in Danny Boyle's onstage version of the Mary Shelley story.
As we were saying, this will not be the only Frankenstein monster film to appear in the next while, with at least two other projects currently being worked on. The first, named 'I, Frankenstein' will star Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy and is due for release next year. Another of the same variety will cast Daniel Radcliffe as the monster in a as-of-yet untitled film also set to come out in 2014.For some reason the most perplexing of these is Radcliffe's casting, anyone else agree that the ex-Potter boy doesn't seem an easy fit for the frightful legendary monster?
