Godzilla director Gareth Edwards has just bagged a huge gig, as it's been confirmed he'll helm another film in the Star Wars universe.

According to Heat Vision, Gary Whitta (Book of Eli, After Earth) is writing the script and the film will be released towards the end of 2016 - meaning Edwards and co will have to to get a move on pretty sharpish. It also means that there will more than likely be a different director for the inevitable Godzilla sequel.

Edwards said in a statement, "Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm,"

In typical Bad Robot fashion, there's no confirmation on who the character that the focus will fall on, with many saying it could be Boba Fett and others hoping for Yoda.

Fair play to Edwards; he made a fantastic movie off his own back in 2010 called Monsters, and deserves this. Talent and hard work do pay off it seems.
