The release date for George Clooney's The Monuments Men has been pushed far, far back into 2014. While this would make most people shrug and think 'so what?' it means that the film will now be ineligible for the Academy Awards. Aww shucks for the A-listers involved.
Deadline report that the reason behind the World War II epic's delay is that visual effects could not be completed in time for the scheduled release date, which would have been January 9th 2014.
Director, producer and star Clooney told the Los Angeles times “We just didn’t have enough time." He added, "If any of the effects looked cheesy, the whole movie would look cheesy. We simply don’t have enough people to work enough hours to finish it.”
Apparently the score, which was to be composed by Alexandre Desplat, has not even been recorded yet.
The movie boasts an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman and Bill Murray and all of them already have been at least nominated for an Oscar (except Goodman - he'll have to practice his nonchalant face) so they won't care. Will they?
