Chris Hemsworth is among the names to join the crew
The 'Mad Max' spin-off that everyone has been waiting for has officially been given the green light.
Warner Bros. is now in advanced development with 'Furiosa'.
The 'Mad Max: Fury Road' character was originally played by Charlize Theron.
Theron will not be reprising the role as the standalone feature looks at the origins of the character from before she met Max.
Anya Taylor-Joy, known for her roles in 'Split', 'Emma' and more recently 'The New Mutants', will play Imperator Furiosa, as was previously rumoured.
Two more big stars join the cast in Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
The latter is known for his roles in 'Aquaman' and 'Watchmen' and stars in the upcoming 'The Matrix 4'.
Creator of the 'Mad Max' franchise George Miller will direct as well as co-write and serve as a producer.
He penned the script with Nico Lathouris, who was also a co-writer on 'Fury Road'.
Much of the creative team and crew, who are longtime Miller collaborators, and all worked on 'Fury Road', will be back too.
Taylor-Joy will next be seen in 'The Queen's Gambit' on Netflix while Hemsworth begins shooting 'Thor: Love & Thunder' next March.
Abdul-Mateen II can be seen in 'Trial of the Chicago 7', which hits Netflix this Friday. He also stars in the remake of 'Candyman', which is set to hit cinemas in 2021.
