The movie has just hit cinemas and could be getting a sequel already
The latest Ryan Reynolds starrer, 'Free Guy', has just hit cinemas and fans and critics are thoroughly enjoying it.
'Free Guy' is largely set within the world of a video game where a non-player character (NPC) called Guy (Reynolds) has decided to play the hero.
The movie made $50.9 at the global box office for its opening weekend, which in pandemic times is a pretty impressive debut, especially as cinema attendance in the US is declining.
Ryan Reynolds has since taken to Twitter to announce that the House of Mouse wants more.
He tweeted: "Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!! #irony"
The development is ironic given that in 'Free Guy', Taika Waititi's character is obsessed with profiting off video game sequels.
Ryan Reynolds tends to be jokey with his tweets, but it would seem this one is sincere.
The fact that 20th Century Studios retweeted it shows that the news is legit.
Shawn Levy also retweeted it, so here's hoping the director will be returning to the helm for the sequel.
