We didn't think it was possible but perhaps Daniel Radcliffe will shake off his Harry Potter shackles and forge a career beyond the gates of Hogwarts. Between stripping off for some full frontal acting on stage in Equus (to play a man who has a sexual attraction towards horses), donning a pair of horns in another forthcoming flick, and his recent steamy sex scene filming for Kill Your Darlings, it seems he's eager to move as far away humanly possible from Potter and his roundy spectacles.
Recently, Radcliffe has opened up about his experience on filming gay sex scenes for the aforementioned Kill Your Darlings. In this movie, Radcliffe plays gay poet Allen Ginsberg, who comes in contact with fellow scribes William Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (played by Jack Houston) following a murder at University.
Speaking to MTV, the former Harry Potter star explained how he finds it weird that sex scenes are considered so 'shocking'. "It's interesting that the ['gay scenes'] are deemed shocking. For me, there's something very strange about that because we see straight sex scenes all the time. We've seen gay sex scenes before. I don't know what a gay sex scene should be any more shocking than a straight sex scene."
"It was something new," he said. "But you know what, we shot that whole scene in maybe an hour and a half so it was incredibly fast-paced. I didn't really have time to stop to think and worry about it... John [the director] was very helpful in furnishing me with a lot of graphic detail of what I would be experiencing at the various stages."
On knowing his co-star in advance of filming, Radcliffe said: "We were able to hang out a little bit on set and get to know each other a little bit, which I think is important when you're doing a scene so intimate. You have to feel like you're both in it together."
