We tend not to hand out five star reviews here at entertainment.ie. I've given three, five star movies in my time (Watchmen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Gone Baby Gone), while our other reviewer, Gavin Burke is hovering around a similar number. There is a film that is released next Friday, September 4th, that has been infecting those of us here at EI with a giddiness that we feel the need to pass on to anyone who will listen...
With the release of the excellent thriller The Hurt Locker, and the hugely innovative science fiction movie District 9 only a week apart, cinema goers are in for a genuine treat over the next seven days. The film of the year, however, may actually be a small, low-budgeted affair about a fractured relationship, with a kick-ass soundtrack; (500) Days of Summer is a really, genuinely, lovely, film. Starring the infinitely talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, it's a production that will resonate wonderfully with anyone who allows themselves to be taken in by it, and I urge you to go see it.
So whether you rarely agree with myself or Gavin, bear in mind that we NEVER agreed with each other to such a magnitude as we have on (500) Days of Summer. Okay, I thought Deschanel's character was a bit of a bitch, but Gavin liked her... You can read what Gavin had to say about the film here, and I urge ya'll to do so. Don't forget to send us your thoughts, by writing your own review when you do see it.
