With Frank opening in cinemas this Friday, we thought we'd take a look at some other fictional on-screen bands which we wished were actually real.

7. THE BLUES BROTHERS - The Blues Brothers

Who wants Orange Whips? Orange Whip? Orange Whip? Three Orange Whips.

6. MARVIN BERRY & THE STARLIGHTERS - Back To The Future

You'd think if a band had the cousin of Chuck Berry that, you know, they'd be more famous or something. Also - trivia. That's not Michael J. Fox singing. Sorry to ruin your childhood.

5. THE DAN BAND - Old School

If we were getting married, we'd hire these guys. Led by comedian-musician Dan Finnerty, the Dan Band has turned up in pretty much every Todd Phillips film, including The Hangover, Starsky & Hutch and School for Scoundrels. This, however, is their crowning achievement.

4. THE WONDERS - That Thing You Do

An overlooked classic, That Thing You Do was directed, written, produced by and actually starred Tom Hanks. Following the fortunes of a one-hit wonder band in the 1960's, That Thing You Do also had a pretty catchy song to go along with it.

3. STILLWATER - Almost Famous

Cameron Crowe's semi-autobiographical story of a teenage journalist whose swept away with a touring rock band in the 1970's had a fantastic soundtrack. As well as using well-known songs from the time period, the on-screen band were actually pretty good as well.

2. SONIC DEATH MONKEY / KATHLEEN TURNER OVERDRIVE / BARRY JIVE & THE UPTOWN FIVE - High Fidelity

You could argue that Tenacious D was a band - we disagree, they were a duo. In any case, Jack Black's rendition of Let's Get It On in High Fidelity was the perfect way to finish off one of John Cusack's best films.

1. SPINAL TAP - This Is Spinal Tap

Not only did they turn up in The Simpsons in one of the best episodes - "We salute you, our half-inflated dark lord!" - Spinal Tap have actually played one-off concerts every so often for the last thirty-odd years. How many real-life bands, never mind fictional bands, can actually say that?
