Jet setting time again, and on this occasion it was off to the lovely Sandra Bullock in London town for a chinwag. I've long since been a fan of the chameleonic Bullock, weaving as she does in and out of staggeringly different roles like the pro we know and love. Who didn't love Miss Congeniality? And who could forget Speed? Among a slew of romcoms and comedies, Sandra proved herself as the go to girl for genuine rofls. Making her the superstar we know today, though, is the weightier, more dramatic fare with which she's dotted her career, her turn in The Blind Side earning her a Best Actress Oscar. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was another of that ilk.
Sure to add another gong to her mantlepiece this time round, here Sandra and I spoke all things Gravity. The latest space-set offering from the incredibly gifted Alfonso Cuaron, and also starring the butter-wouldn't-melt George Clooney, Gravity has been widely touted as the best film (not even genre specific) of the last ten years. No mean feat, I'm sure you'll agree. Well Sandra absolutely takes the biscuit here as Doctor Ryan Stone who goes on not only a physical but an emotional and psychological journey, all the while stranded out there in the ether.
Despite having experienced an enormous amount of success with the awards to prove it, Sandra is still surprisingly self conscious and full of doubt. I spoke to her about all of the above, as well as her life's pride and joy, her son, and how he keeps her so well grounded.
Gravity hits Irish cinemas on November 7th.
