Gosling was Oscar nominated for his role as Ken
As you'll probably know, the Oscar nominations were revealed earlier this week and the various nominations - or lack thereof, in some cases - surrounding 'Barbie' have caused quite a kerfuffle.
The outrage around Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's supposed 'snubs' has been deemed disproportionate by many, especially when you have the likes of Hillary Clinton weighing in...
However, there has also been a lot of discourse surrounding the fact that Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Ken, but Robbie was not nominated for her role as Barbie (despite Gosling publicly saying that he was disappointed that she and Gerwig had not gotten the nod.)
One person who's not taking criticism of Gosling lying down is his wife, actress Eva Mendes.
She took to Instagram with the best response to the silliness, posting screenshots of the various OTT critiques of Gosling's performance which called it cringey and annoying.
"So proud of my man," she wrote. "So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars."
She added: "So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie."
Gosling's co-star America Ferrara, who was also nominated in the Supporting Actress category, replied: "He is brilliant as Ken! Pulled off a triple somersault performance! We’re so lucky it was him and I’m so grateful for the way he showed up with his super stardom, and continues to show up to support all the women in this process!! He is a class act and insanely deserving and talented."
This is Gosling's third Oscar nomination, and he goes head-to-head with Sterling K. Brown, Robert De Niro, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo in the Supporting Actor category.
The song sung by him in the film - 'I'm Just Ken' - was also nominated in the Best Original Song category.
The Oscars take place on March 10th.
