All Watson and Harry Potter afficianados and haters alike will remember Emma Watson's mini-breakdown following the end of the cult film series. Likewise, her return to the screen with the critically acclaimed coming-of-age movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower has been followed by the media and public with much interest. Her turn from actress on hiatus to high-profile actress changing and developing her image- much needed shaking up of the Hermione association- is something many people want to know more about. Luckily, Watson is opening up about her life post Harry Potter and the direction she decided to take.
According to the young Bling Ring actress, not everyone approved of a career in the movie industry, including some of the most influential people in her life.Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she stated 'For a while I kind of bought into the hype of, "Will they ever be able to play anything else?" It gave me a sense of paralysis and stage fright for a while. And then a professor told me that they didn't think I should act, either. So I was really grappling with it and wasn't feeling good about it.' The twenty-three year old actress achieved all A-grades in school and went on to study in Brown and Oxford, so academics is unquestionably a significant part of her life. Thankfully, she didn't take heed to the advice and has since gone on to prove her acting capabilities.
Explaining her change of mind she stated 'And then, I don't know... it got so bad and people had put me in a box so much that it started ******* me off. I suddenly wanted to prove them wrong. It gave me fuel, in a way. I'm not sure why that shift happened [...] I just got the bug and got very driven all of a sudden, which I really wasn't before. But I'm so happy. It's all felt very new to me, really'. Acting gold star Emma, we need you in cinema.
