But she doesn't mind the comparison
The 'Sex Education' star will join Margot Robbie in the upcoming 'Barbie' movie which, in part, is thanks to Twitter for pointing out their striking similarities.
Emma Mackey really doesn't see the Margot Robbie comparison, you guys.
Mackey, who plays Maeve Wiley in Netflix's super popular teen drama series 'Sex Education', was propelled into the spotlight online when fans of the show noticed some similarities were drawn between herself and former 'Neighbours' star Margot Robbie.
And to be fair, they do share some doppelgänger-ness, no?
Yes, Emma Mackey has seen your tweets about her looking like Margot Robbie... "It’s just funny," she tells Total Film. "And I think Margot has had the grace and humor to be able to play on that, and allow me to be in the same film as her – bless her." #Barbie pic.twitter.com/22inpOXGP3

In an interview with Total Film published this week, Mackey says she doesn't mind the comparisons drawn between her 'Barbie' co-star, but that she doesn't really see them herself. She said she hopes the internet can "move past" this in the future: "I think Margot has had the grace and humour to be able to play on that, and allow me to be in the same film as her – bless her. It’s just a joke in real life.
"I’m like, 'We don’t look anything like each other.' I don’t mind it. It’s Margot Robbie. Are you kidding me? She’s the best. I look up to her so much. I don’t mind the comparisons. But it would be nice to move past that."
Well, we'll have to wait until July 2023 for when 'Barbie' hits cinemas to really compare both stars. Cagily discussing her role in the film, Mackey said the movie is "pretty special", adding "it’s one of the best scripts all of us had read".
Mackey is known for playing quite a serious character in the 'Sex Education' series, with the teenager having to deal with a lot of issues that many adults might never have to, so she was extremely happy to be playing a more light-hearted role in 'Barbie'.
She teased: "It’s very unexpected in many ways. I think people are going to have an idea of the film, and I don’t think it’s going to be that. It’s going to be a surprise. I’m really excited. And it’s a comedy, thank God. No crying in this film! Let me tell you that. No crying! It was great to do pure comedy – an American comedy, as well. And I got to work with some heroes."
In the upcoming fourth season of 'Sex Education', Maeve be crossing the Atlantic as she begins studying in the US (under the guidance from Dan Levy). Mackey will next appear in 'Emily', Frances O'Connor's Emily Brontë biopic, which opens in cinemas on October 14.
