Emile Hirsch has joined the $40 million Russian-set alien invasion thriller The Darkest Hour, according to trade paper Variety.

The film is described as 28 Days Later in tone, and surrounds a group of tourists on holiday in Russia, who are trying to survive an alien invasion. Juno star Olivia Thirlby has already joined the project as a rich girl joining in the fight against the other worldly bastards.

Chris Gorak, who directed the enjoyable Right At Your Door is helming, while Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambetov is producing, and the film will be shot at his studio in Russia.
