Let's try to survive one apocalypse at a time, shall we?
Elon Musk's business partner has made a very bold statement, and made us all wish that he hadn't said it.
Alas, we might all be eaten by robotic dinosaurs if this latest story is be believed. Or, to be conceived at least. Elon Musk's business partner has Tweeted to say that a 'Jurassic Park' could be built in the future.
As the world slowly begins to recuperate from a virus, this is probably the last thing on our minds, so it's nice to know how the millionaires and billionaires of the world are thinking these days.
Max Hodak is the co-founder of Elon Musk’s company Neuralink, a company that develops implantable brain-machine interfaces. In the long term, the company aims to enhance the human condition, essentially.
It appears that the founders are keen to cover all aspects of life, and have turned their attention to a species from millions of years ago - the dinosaur, which went extinct 65 million years ago.
Now, if popular culture and movies have thought us anything it's that humans attempting to recreate this species always ends badly. Like, eaten by a Tyrannosaurus rex badly.
But that hasn't stopped Hodak from tweeting that it's possible to do.
His tweet reads: "we could probably build jurassic park if we wanted to. wouldn’t be genetically authentic dinosaurs but [shrug emoji]. maybe 15 years of breeding + engineering to get super exotic novel species"
As you can read in this Reddit post, the 'Jurassic Park' movies didn't use dinosaur DNA to create the species in the movie universe. Essentially, they were just genetic experiments that strung different lifeforms together and hoped for the best. John Hammond's park was just a money racket with not much authenticity.
Let's see how this Elon Musk 'Jurassic Park' story develops over the next 15 or so year, shall we? For now, we're more comfortable knowing that the flash-eating dinosaurs are running around causing havoc on our cinema and TV screens. For now...
