We may not see a fourth Beverly Hills Cop movie after all, but star Eddie Murphy seems to think that a TV series featuring Axel Foley’s son as a cop could be the way forward. The actor and comedian spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the series:
"They’re not doing it. What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong" says Murphy. The sequels proposed director, Brett Ratner disagreed though, teling Collider.com "I think there will probably be another Beverly Hills Cop but I think more so now than before because Eddie and I now have a rapport and I think it’s a film that…he was very precious about Axel Foley. I think it’s easier because now I know him so well that I can really get him to come around on some of the ideas that have been pitched out. I’m hoping in the next few years there will be a script. Eddie and I are even setting up some more of his ideas… I think we have a little bit of time to come up with a great Beverly Hills Cop."
Their new movie Tower Heist is previewing from this Wednesday in Ireland. Murphy is also hosting the Oscars early next year, with Ratner producing.
