Robert Downey Jr. has signed up for his first post Iron Man role as an official superstar; as it’s been announced he’ll play Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s recently greenlit "reimagination" of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous crime solving character. Downey committed to the project after Ritchie showed him a recently polished draft. According to Variety the new Holmes will "take advantage of his physical skills as the character displays brawn as well as brains". Joel Silver is producing the film along with Downey’s missus Susan Downey - who previously produced her husband’s (re)break-out role in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. This is a massive coup for Ritchie, whose next film RocknRolla is said to be his strongest since Snatch (which let’s face it, wouldn’t be that difficult). Great casting to be fair, but you could say that about any film starring Robert Downey Jr.
