Ewan McGregor plays Danny Torrance, all grown up.
We've said it many times, and we'll say it once again - 'The Shining' is probably the greatest horror ever made, so a sequel to it is always going to have huge expectations on its shoulders.
Although there's not a huge amount of story in this trailer for 'Doctor Sleep', the novel it's based on has been on release for almost six years now so it's really just a case of reading that to get an idea of what's going on. Ewan McGregor takes on the role of Danny Torrance, the young child terrorised by his father in the Overlook Hotel. As in 'The Shining', Danny is gifted with a special power that allows him to see things others can't, as well as the ability to communicate with others by telepathy.
The adaptation of 'Doctor Sleep' is written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who did Netflix's 'The Haunting Of Hill House' and also adapted another Stephen King classic, 'Gerald's Game'. The cast for 'Doctor Sleep' includes Rebecca Ferguson, 'Room' breakout Jacob Tremblay, Bruce Greenwood and the trailer also features footage from Kubrick's 'The Shining' interspersed throughout. Not only that, the final beat of the trailer sees McGregor gingerly poking his head through the door where Jack Nicholson hacked his way through in a frenzy.
'Doctor Sleep' arrives in Irish cinemas on October 31st.
