FINALLY.

2009's 'District 9' helped to launch the careers of director Neill Blomkamp and actor Sharlto Copley, but the sequel promised in the movie itself has never materialised - until now, that is.

Neill Blomkamp confirmed last night on Twitter that the script for 'District 10' is finally underway, reuniting Sharlto Copley and Terri Tatchell as screenwriters with Blomkamp. Details are light at the moment, but given how the movie was clearly set up for a sequel, you can expect something to do with the alien mothership returning like Christopher said he would, and of course, what happened to Wikus afterwards.

Blomkamp's career since 'District 9' has been spotty at best. 'Elysium' was a bit of a letdown, as was 'Chappie'. Still, he's been lined up for some pretty interesting projects that never materialised. There was the supposed sequel to 'Aliens', and 'Robocop Returns', but both of those failed to take flight.

His production company, OATS Studio, has been churning out some really fascinating short movies, with the idea being that any of them that latches on is then turned into a feature movie. 'Inferno', an upcoming horror movie starring Taylor Kitsch, is the first to be produced from the studio.

As for 'District 10', it's still a long way away from hitting screens, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
