Although it might not be the first Disney animated musical you think of, Mulan is nevertheless well-regarded enough to warrant a live-action remake by the House of Mouse.

As we reported some time ago, Niki Caro is lined up to direct and in an interview with Moviefone, Caro explained that her film's going to be markedly different from the original on a number of fronts - one of them being no songs.

Instead, Caro says that the live-action Mulan will be "a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving," but stressed that - at this time anyway, there'll be no songs.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, to be honest. A straightforward, shot-for-shot live-action adaptation isn't always the best option and considering the so-so reviews for Beauty & The Beast, it makes sense that they'd try and go in a different direction rather than simply repeat what came before but with live actors.

Moreover, Niki Caro is being paired with martial arts producing guru Bill Kong, who previously worked on Oscar-winning martial arts epic Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, so it's unlikely he'd get involved with it if it were a musical.

In any event, it all sounds pretty cool - but we'll just have to play I'll Make A Man Out Of You all by ourselves.
