Guess it died hard...
A 'Die Hard' reboot/prequel had been talked about for a while there. But it looks like the project is now dead in the water.
Polygon broke the news that - for now, anyway - work on what would have been the sixth 'Die Hard' installment has ceased.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed the news while promoting new 'G.I. Joe' movie 'Snake Eyes'.
"Yeah, no, It’s not happening," di Bonaventura said.
"But what was really interesting was we actually came up with an idea to do it. It was a project that wasn’t Die Hard that then, eventually, shifted over to Die Hard."
The first movie featuring Bruce Willis' John McClane hit cinemas in 1988 and rocked the action genre.
Sequels followed in 1990, 1995, 2007 and 2013.
However fans readily accept that from the fourth installment - 'Live Free or Die Hard' - the franchise was starting to deteriorate.
'McClane' would have seen Willis return to the titular role with a different actor playing a younger version of the New York cop.
The timeline would have jumped between the modern day and the 1970s.
The producer noted: "What was interesting about our idea was it allowed you the ability to meet the young John McClane and use Bruce.
"It was really interesting in that way. So you sort of got to see both versions of him. A bit [like 'The Godfather: Part II']."
The main reason for the project falling by the wayside is that Disney acquired 21st Century Fox and therefore the 'Die Hard' property.
"I don’t know what their plans are," concluded di Bonaventura of the studio's future with the franchise.
