The woes for 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' may be ongoing, but here in Ireland, things aren't so bad for the Millennium Falcon.
The space opera spinoff has managed to retain the top spot at the Irish box office for a second week and only suffered a 36% drop, compared to a grim 65% drop in the US market. All told so far, 'Solo' has made just over €750 thousand in Ireland - but that's still a long way off 'Deadpool 2' and its three-week take of €1.9 million.
The gargantuan 'Avengers: Infinity War' is still in the Top 5 of the Irish box office, with a total so far of €4,601,290. Given its popularity six weeks out from release, there's every possibility that the film will stick around for another few weeks before 'Ant-Man & The Wasp' arrives in Irish cinemas on August 3rd.
As it stands, 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' has made a total of $264,387,100 and while Disney and Lucasfilm haven't specifically stated the production budget for the film, conservative estimates put it somewhere anywhere of the region of between $250 million and $300 million. That's not even counting marketing costs either, something Disney and Lucasfilm has been known to fork out huge sums of money for in the past.
The box office doom and gloom for the 'Star Wars' spinoff, however, hasn't stopped Disney and Lucasfilm from greenlighting future spinoffs. Just last week, James Mangold was announced as taking on Boba Fett for the House Of Mouse.
'Solo: A Star Wars Story' is currently in Irish cinemas.
