Guillermo del Toro will spend the time he planned directing The Hobbit, instead helming a "scary" big screen version of the Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion.
Del Toro was announced as a director at Comic Con in San Diego, where film and comic book fans from all over the world amass to hear the good word on the latest TV/Movie/Comic project they are most excited about. If the title sounds familiar to you but you've never been to Disneyland, it's because Eddie Murphy starred in a kiddie version of the same film a few years back, to a muted response from audiences and critics.
The fans cheered as soon as del Toro was announced as director and entered the stage. The Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth helmer is still very much a director who the movie geeks out there love, despite his walking away from The Hobbit. Other surprise announcements are also expected this weekend.
