Ryan Gosling also made headlines for his very confused reaction
It was a big night for 'Oppenheimer' at last night's Critics' Choice Awards, with Christopher Nolan's film sweeping the board with eight wins.
However, one of them was unfortunately not for Ireland's Cillian Murphy, who missed out on the Best Actor award - not to Bradley Cooper, as many might suspect, but for Paul Giamatti in 'The Holdovers'.
However, the Corkman's role in the film was acknowledged by his co-star Emily Blunt, as she accepted the award for Best Ensemble. "I love that we’re calling this an ensemble and we’re very grateful," she said, "but most of us were part-timers that gathered around this completely riveting fire of Cillian Murphy. Truly."
Elsewhere, 'Oppenheimer''s Robert Downey Jr. made fun of his critics when accepting the award for Best Supporting Actor, quoting from reviews of his various performances over the years during his speech.
"I was thinking this morning, I love critics," he said. "You know, they’ve given me such beautiful feedback, really just so many great moments, and some of it is so poetic. I just want to share some of their thoughts with you over the years. The first one is kind of like Haiku: ‘Sloppy, messy and lazy.’ The next one is more metaphoric: ‘Like Pee-Wee Herman emerging from a coma.’ This was from a Brit: ‘A puzzling waste of talent.’ And lastly, and this one lingered: ‘Amusing as a bed-locked fart.'"
Ryan Gosling also made headlines for his amusing reaction to the news that 'I'm Just Ken' from 'Barbie' had won the award for Best Original Song:
