Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia director Jonathan Demme is strongly considering helming Honeymoon With Harry, with Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper starring.
According to Deadline.com, Oscar winner Paul Haggis adapted the script back in 2004 from the popular novel, and it's widely considered one of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. The flick would centre on Cooper's boisterous playboy, who calms down when he meets the woman of his dreams; with De Niro the would-be father-in-law who is trying to break them up. So far, so Meet The Parents. However, when she dies tragically before the wedding, Cooper's groom heads off on the honeymoon to drink himself to death, and finds De Niro there looking to spread her ashes.
The script will apparently mix humour and drama ala James L Brooks, while a table read with De Niro (who apparently LOVES table reads) and Cooper took place last week. Could be the film to cement Cooper as a proper actor, not just movie star in waiting.
