Irishman will make acting debut in remake of cult action film
Conor McGregor has joined the cast of the 'Road House' remake.
The UFC champion will be playing an undisclosed role in the remake per Deadline, with the article adding "sources made it clear he would be playing an original character and not himself in the project."
The star is making the jump from the ring to Hollywood, in a move that has long been rumoured.
There is no word if McGregor has a large role or what is essentially a glorified cameo appearance for marketing purposes, but the addition of the UFC star is sure to drum up interest in the remake.
Karen J. Kessler, spokesperson for the star, told entertainment.ie "Conor McGregor is very excited to expand his storied career to Hollywood and join with Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of Road House, a beloved classic."
"While fighting remains his top focus, this is the beginning of another successful venture in the McGregor empire, and he is eager to get started filming.”
Jake Gyllenhaal will play the lead role in the remake of the beloved Patrick Swayze film, which is being made for Prime Video.
Gyllenhaal will play a "cooler" at a bar on the Florida Keys, when action calls.
McGregor met with producer Joel Silver about starring in the project, and per Deadline, the star had never seen the original film.
The article goes on to say "insiders say when he got wind there was interest for him to join Road House, he actually watched the film for the first time and after enjoying the original, was game to meet to see how he would play a part in this film."
"Sources go on to say that after a meeting with Silver, he was all in and loved the idea where this new story was headed compared to the original."
'No Time To Die' and 'Many Saints Of Newark' star Billy Magnussen has also been named in the cast, which would indicate he's the villain of the piece, with 'The White Lotus' star Lukas Gage and 'The Suicide Squad' actress Daniela Melchior also in the cast list.
"I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role,” said director Doug Liman, who directed the first film in the 'Bourne' series as well as the 2014 hit 'Edge of Tomorrow' starring Tom Cruise.
'Road House' will debut on Prime Video in either 2023 or early 2024.
