Aidan Gillen will join him in the cast

It's one of Ireland's most notorious murder cases, and now it's been brought to the big screen by Oscar-nominated Irish director Jim Sheridan ('My Left Foot', 'In the Name of the Father'.)

Colm Meaney is set to take on the role of Ian Bailey, the infamous man accused of the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in West Cork in 1996.

Aidan Gillen has also been cast in the film titled 'Re-Creation' which is said to be a '12 Angry Men' style drama. It will question what happened almost 30 years ago, using a fictional jury to debate the facts of the case.

It's a case which has gripped the nation for many years with the popular podcast 'West Cork' most recently telling the strange story of what went down in West Cork while Jim Sheridan also did a documentary about it for Sky called 'Murder at the Cottage'. Ian Bailey was arrested twice but nobody was ever charged for  Sophie Toscan du Plantier's murder. A Garda cold case review into Sophie’s death is ongoing.

No word yet on when we will see 'Re-Creation' but we will keep you posted.
