Colin Farrell has, somewhat surprisingly, joined the intriguing sounding remake of 80s horror movie, Fright Night. The film has already cast Anton Yelchin in the lead role, while Lars and the Real Girl helmer Craig Gillespie is calling the shots on a Marti Nixon (Buffy) screenplay.
Farrell will play a charismatic vampire, who moves in next door to Yelchin's teen. When he starts acting all vampire like (eating virgins and whatnot), Yelchin figures out that he's a fanged sort, but no one believes him. After Farrell starts putting the moves on his auld one (to be played by Toni Collette) Yelchin calls in a TV vampire hunter to help him out.
The original is an awful lot of a fun and I have genuinely fond memories of it as a youngster. The calibre of director and cast here means that this really isn't being half-assed and the studio are throwing good money at it. Farrell is slowly moving back to the mainstream after a series of indie roles. He'll next be seen in romantic comedy Something Blue, while he's also signed up for the Paul Rudd comedy Horrible Bosses. After bringing the funny in a whole different level with In Bruges, it'll good to see him tackle an out and out comedy.
