The director responded to a backlash that followed comments from Anne Hathaway
In case you missed it, Christopher Nolan faced something of a backlash yesterday following comments from Anne Hathaway during an interview.
The 'Les Mis' actress, who has worked with Christopher Nolan on 'Interstellar' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' , said the director "doesn't allow chairs."
Hathaway was speaking to Hugh Jackman as part of Variety's Actors on Actors series at the time.
She said Nolan's "reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they're sitting, they're not working."
There was outrage at Nolan afterwards. Many accused the director of bullying his actors. Others who had worked on or visited the director's sets claimed there had been plenty of chairs available.
Nolan has since responded via his rep. He clarified Anne Hathaway's comments and said that it's he himself who omits using a chair.
Speaking to Indiewire, the rep's statement reads: "For the record, the only things banned from [Christopher Nolan's] sets are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully).
"The chairs Anne was referring to are the directors chairs clustered around the video monitor, allocated on the basis of hierarchy not physical need. Chris chooses not to use his but has never banned chairs from the set.
"Cast and crew can sit wherever and whenever they need and frequently do."
The current release date for Christopher Nolan's next movie 'Tenet' is August 12th. However in the current climate, it could very well change. We'll have all the latest here.
