Welshman said his children helped make the decision for him
Christian Bale is no stranger to the world of superhero films, but the star admits his children gave him "marching orders" to star in the new 'Thor' movie.
The Oscar winner was keen to work with director Taika Waititi as he was a fan of 'Jojo Rabbit' and was keen to work with the quirky Kiwi.
Bale said he and his family "loved" the previous 'Thor' movie as well as 'Jojo Rabbit' and jumped at the chance to work with Waititi.
"I had worked with Natalie Portman and wanted to work with Tessa Thompson and with Chris Hemsworth, and comes down to that, really."
"I just went, ‘Great!’ Loved the script, loved Taika’s description of the villain. ‘Let’s go do this," he recalled.
He added, “there were some potential scheduling conflicts. I said to my family, ‘I don’t think it’s going to work out,’ and they went, ‘No, you make it work out. You’re doing this, Dad.’ They gave me my marching orders, and I dutifully obeyed.”
Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Bale revealed he sits down with his family to "make choices together" and he admits that his appearance in 'Thor' was looking unlikely to happen owing to scheduling conflicts.
"They corrected me on that and they said, ‘no, dad, you’re making this one.”
Bale has two children, Emmeline Bale, 17, and Joseph Bale, 7, with his wife Sibi Blažić.
The 'American Psycho' and 'The Fighter' star said he "made the mistake" of googling his character Gorr the God Butcher prior to production.
“In the comics he runs around in a G-string all the time, and I thought, ‘They don’t have the right man for that!’ but then Taika quickly dispelled any notions of running around in that,” Bale said.
“But I always did think what he could do with this in front of a bluescreen — he could chuck on whatever he wants later on.”
'Thor: Love and Thunder' hits Irish cinema screens on July 7th.
