A live-action / CG hybrid of 'Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers', directed by one of the Lonely Island.
There's a good chance the only thing you remember about 'Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers' is its '80s pop-rock theme song.
After that, the most common bit of information stored in the collective consciousness on them is that they're based on 'Indiana Jones' and 'Magnum PI'. No, really. One of them (Dale) has the same Haiwaan shirt as Tom Selleck, and the other one has Harrison Ford's leather jacket and fedora.
Even better bit of trivia - Tom Selleck was originally the first choice to play Indiana Jones, but couldn't get out of his 'Magnum PI' contract and had to pass.
Useless trivia aside, THR reports that Akiva Schaffer - one third of the Lonely Island - is set to direct a live action / CG-hybrid based on the cartoon series, 'Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers'. The script, written by 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' alums Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, is described as being "meta", which is always a good sign.
No release date has been set, nor has any firm distribution path for the movie been laid out. Given how Disney is ramping up its own streaming service with Disney+, it's entirely possible that the movie could wind up there rather than in cinemas.
Whatever the case may be, if this doesn't get a blast somewhere along the way, what was even the point of it all?
