Taylor Simone Ledward accepted on behalf of her husband, who passed away in August of last year.
As much as there were some hilarious glitches and goofs throughout last night's Golden Globes, there was a bittersweet moment in the Best Actor (Motion Picture) category.
Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in August of last year at the age of 43, was nominated alongside the likes of Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins in what was to be his final on-screen role for 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' opposite Viola Davis.
Boseman played Levee Green, the impetuous trumpet player who spars with his fellow session musicians and Ma Rainey herself, and eventually won in his category. Taylor Simone Ledward-Boseman, Chadwick's widow, tearfully accepted on his behalf.
"He would thank God," the speech began. "He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices. He would say something beautiful. Something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells you you can. That tells you to keep going. That calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history."
She thanked the cast of 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom', including Viola Davis, before adding that, "I don’t have his words, but we have to take all the moments to celebrate those we love, so thank you, HFPA, for this opportunity to do exactly that. And hon'? You keep 'em coming."
Here's the speech in full.
