"It wasn’t in your face—but at the same time, too, if you’re looking, you’ll see it."
Believe it or not, there was an even worse version of 'Cats' at one point.
Rumours first started circulating that a "butthole cut" of 'Cats' exists in recent weeks.
According to the myth, the original edit of the movie includes all the cats' buttholes and one VFX editor had to remove them all.
However another anonymous crew member said they never saw such a version. Thus the question of its existence seemed put to rest.
Now there have been further developments.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, a visual-effects editor who worked on the movie musical confirmed that an early version of it did indeed feature anuses.
The source said: “When we were looking at the playbacks, we were like, ‘What the hell? You guys see that?!’”
“We paused it,” the source continued. “We went to call our supervisor, and we’re like, ‘There’s a fucking asshole in there! There’s buttholes!’ It wasn’t prominent but you saw it… And you [were] just like, ‘What the hell is that?... There’s a fucking butthole in there.’ It wasn’t in your face—but at the same time, too, if you’re looking, you’ll see it.”
It reallhy was just an accident as the characters' skin and fur had been “groomed or just folded in a way that really REALLY looked like very furry lady genitals and buttholes by accident.”
The source added: “There was nobody that said, ‘We want buttholes.’ It was one of those things that just happened and slipped through.”
The VFX editor confirmed that there was indeed a single crew member hired to remove all the anuses.
Not only that but the source makes out it was a pretty horrific shoot thanks to the treatment of director Tom Hooper.
The source reportedly had the crew working 90-hour weeks for months. Some of their colleagues stayed in the office for two or three days at a time, sleeping under their desks. The source also alleged that Hooper had no idea how animation works (go figure).
The source described Hooper as “horrible”. Other adjectives included “disrespectful,” “demeaning,” and “condescending”. “When you go into a conference room, you’re not allowed to speak,” they said. “And he talks to you like you’re garbage.”
“It was pure, almost slavery for us, how much work we put into it with no time, and everything was difficult,” the source said. “We were so rushed on the project that we’d have no time for anything. So when people say, ‘Oh, the effects were not good,’ or ‘The animation’s not good,’ or anything, that’s not our fault. We have no time. Six months to do a two-minute trailer and four months to do a film of an hour and a half. My math is pretty good... You could figure that doesn’t make any sense.”
The lore around this movie just gets increasingly fascinating...
