Remember earlier in 2019 when the 'Cats' movie released its first trailer, and the world was shook with just how weird it all looked? Well, it turns out that the final product was just as head scratching and unlikeable.
In our one-star review of the movie we said: "Cats’ is not just as creepy as you think it’ll be, it’s creepier, and you can’t even enjoy it on a 'so bad it’s good' level because it’s unbelievably boring as well." Ouch.
And unsurprisingly, other critics weren't so kind either. On top movie-review website Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently sits at having a meagre 20% approval rating.
According to LA Times, 'Cats' is set to lose Universal Pictures at least $70 million for failing to light up the box office at a time when audiences should be flocking to see the likes of Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, and Ian McKellen dancing and singing to their heart's content.
The movie based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical has drawn just $38.3 million globally so far. And with the budget of the movie expected to be in the region of $100 million, that's a hefty loss for a big holiday movie failing to live up to the likes of 2018's sell-out musical numbers 'Mary Poppins Returns' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
The musical also quietly removed itself from awards consideration to save themselves from looking completely red-faced come awards time next year. In the midst of all this, please enjoy these one-liners taken from one critic's review of the movie.
