This looks... Interesting?
The early 2000's are back on our cinema screens next month, with the arrival of a left-of-field character we thought was long gone.
Yes, 'The Nan Movie' is a real thing, and yes it's hitting our cinemas in a month's time.
Arriving in Irish cinemas on the weekend of our bumper Bank Holiday this March, it's Catherine Tate's character Joanie Taylor AKA Nan in her very own feature film. The mad-cap and potty-mouthed elderly character first appeared as part of the British comedian's sketch show 'The Catherine Tate Show'.
The series initially ran for three seasons and two specials from 2004 to 2007 on the BBC and featured other original Tate creations such as Lauren "Am I bovvered?" Cooper as well as the incredibly talkative office worker Kate who loved to pester her colleague Ellen.
Nan proved to be the most popular of Tate's characters, however, and earned herself two separate specials which aired in 2009 and 2015.
'The Nan Movie' will see Tate back as the titular grandmother, and she'll be joined by her grandson Jamie (Mathew Horne from 'Gavin and Stacey') on a party-filled road trip. The pair will travel from London to Dublin in their camper van, and we'll finally get to see what made Nan the cantankerous old b*****d she is today.
Joining the cast will be Irish star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor ('Love/Hate'), with Katherine Parkinson ('The IT Crowd'), Parker Sawyers ('Monsoon'), Jack Doolan ('The Green Green Grass') and Niky Wardley ('The Catherine Tate Show').
The official synopsis for the film is as follows: Catherine Tate’s iconic character Nan hits the big screen as she goes on a wild road trip from London to Ireland with her grandson Jamie (Mathew Horne) to make amends with her estranged sister Nell (Katherine Parkinson). Militant vegan arsonists, raucous rugby teams, all-night raves and crazed cops on motorbikes all make for a proper day out.
Here's the trailer.
'The Nan Movie' hits cinemas on March 18.
