It's safe to say that Carrie Fisher and Star Wars just go together.

She's Princess Leia, after all. You can't have Star Wars without her and it's not the same without her. However, if Lucasfilm decide to push beyond Episode IX without her, it's going to be a strange one, to say the least.

There was recent speculation as to whether or not Carrie Fisher would be digitally altered and inserted into future Star Wars films, but more pointed speculation was how exactly she was going to feature both in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the follow-up, Episode IX.

According to a report by THR, Todd Fisher and Billie Lourde - Fisher's brother and daughter, respectively - granted permission to Disney to use footage from her time on the set of The Last Jedi for both that film and Episode IX.

"Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is, you don't," explained Fisher at the TCM Classic Film Festival. "I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her... she's owned by them."

There had been much speculation as to whether Fisher would be written out of Episode IX, as all of her filming had been completed for The Last Jedi just before her passing. With that film due for release on December 15th of this year and Episode IX set for May 23rd, 2019, both films will mark Fisher's final on-screen role.

Damn.
