Shadow puppets are inherently creepy, to be fair.
'Candyman' was always one of the more intriguing horror movies of the '90s, specifically because it blended together themes of racism with supernatural horror for something really unique for its time.
Now, with director Nia DeCosta and executive producer Jordan Peele working on a remake, the themes the original movie talks about are still just as prevalent then as they were now. Maybe even more so.
An animated prologue, shared on Twitter yesterday by director Nia DeCosta, gives a prologue of sorts to the movie, explaining how the Candyman came into being. Following the story of three distinct experiences, it shows how the movie "is about unwilling martyrs. The people they were, the symbols we turn them into, the monsters we are told they must have been."
More of the animation is expected to feature in the movie, according to director Nia DeCosta, with the movie scheduled for release here in Ireland on September 25th.
