Say it five times.
'Candyman' is undoubtedly one of the most disturbing horror movies of the past thirty years, and it's been ripe for a remake for some time.
For one, the movie's underlying themes about racial divides in America are still unfortunately relevant to this day, but beyond that, horror remakes are getting stronger and stronger with each passing year. For example, 'The Invisible Man' is already winning over critics and audiences alike.
'Candyman' was first released in 1992, adapted from Clive Barker's novella, and saw Tony Todd in the title role and Virgina Madsen as the sociology student who becomes obsessed with the urban legend of Candyman. This time around, the two roles seem to be intertwined, with 'Aquaman' star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role of an artist who somehow assumes the identity of the Candyman legend.
With Jordan Peele acting as executive producer and one of its screenwriters, you can be certain it's going to be a lot weirder, terrifying, and smarter than you'd expect.
Here's the trailer.
