The 'Die Hard' star had his retirement confirmed by family on social media
Legendary action movie star Bruce Willis is "stepping away" from acting after being diagnosed with Aphasia.
The 'Die Hard' and 'Armageddon' star will retire from acting as a result of the diagnosis, per a post shared by his family on social media.
The statement read "to Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities."
"As a result of this and with much consideration, Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him."
"This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him."
"As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that," the statement added.
The actor shot to fame for his role on 'Moonlighting' in the 1980s before being catapulted to the A-list with his starring role in the iconic 1988 action film 'Die Hard'.
In his prime, Willis was one of the world's most bankable movie stars, and starred in some of the biggest films of the 1990's including the 'Die Hard' sequels, 'Pulp Fiction', 'Armageddon', and 'The Sixth Sense'.
The 67-year old star had worked over the course of his career, starring in films from respected directors such as Wes Anderson, M. Night Shyamalan, and reprised his role as John McClane in 2013's 'A Good Day To Die Hard'.
Willis briefly had a music career, with his cover of 'Under The Boardwalk' hitting number 2 in the UK and Ireland in the summer of 1987, and was an owner of the Planet Hollywood chain of restaurants alongside then-wife Demi Moore, and fellow action stars Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
