That's one sturdy suit jacket
With the Irish film and television industry currently booming, it's important to remember that there are always varying levels of quality. Or rather - there's believeable, and then there's the absolutely ridiculous.
We're not saying that 'Ek Tha Tiger' (Once There Was a Tiger) is a bad movie (in fact, it's got quite a respectable 73% Rotten Tomatoes critics score), it's just so hard to take any movie seriously when there's a scene involving the main star managing to stop a rogue Luas in its tracks by using his suit jacket. Yep, it's the revival of the Bollywood movie Luas action scene.
In case you might have forgotten, the big budget Bollywood blockbuster was filmed in Dublin back in 2011 and starred one of the most famous Indian actors, Salman Khan. In the action hit he played Avinash Singh "Tiger" Rathore, one of the country's top spies. Travelling to Ireland for a segment of the film, he hit up Dublin to unearth some suspected nuclear weapons research at Trinity College.
We don't really know the ins and out of what happens next, but somehow Tiger ends up getting into a scuffle involving a speedier-than-usual Luas. Poor Maura was only heading out to pick up a few bits in Penneys, hoping to be back home in time for 'The Chase', when this happens.
Here's the scene in question.
Is this the Irish equivalent of Tobey Maguire stopping a runaway train á la 'Spider-Man 2'?
The Bollywood movie and its stand-out Luas scene saw the globe-trotting adventure become a box office smash. The film was released in 3,000 cinemas across in India and 24 countries around the world (Ireland being one of them), resulting in 'Ek Tha Tiger' becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2012.
In case you missed it, there's also quite a hypnotic musical interlude in 'Ek Tha Tiger' which features GAA players, Irish dancers and some posing Gardaí.
'Ek Tha Tiger' can be streamed via Apple TV.
