Then again, we probably could have guessed this, right?

'Black Widow' was postponed due to the current health crisis, but we'll be getting it later this year. The director of the upcoming action flick, Cate Shortland, gave a recent interview which fans think may be a spoiler.

As of 'Avengers: Endgame', Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow died. Thus many were wondering what the future of the character holds.

The latest Marvel movie goes back in time, set after the events of 'Captain America: Civil War'.

And it looks like, as had been rumoured, the film will serve as a loving tribute to Johansson and launch Florence Pugh's new character, Yelena Belova, as a new major player in the MCU.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Shortland said: "[Marvel honcho Kevin Feige] realized that the audience would expect an origin story so, of course, we went in the opposite direction.

"And we didn’t know how great Florence Pugh would be. We knew she would be great, but we didn’t know how great. Scarlett is so gracious, like, ‘Oh, I’m handing her the baton.’ So it’s going to propel another female storyline."

Fans reckon this means Florence Pugh will be Marvel's new Black Widow.

Shortland also indicated that 'Black Widow' will give fans a satisfactory finale to Natasha Romanoff.

"In ‘Endgame,’ the fans were upset that Natasha did not have a funeral," she said. "Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn’t have wanted a funeral.

"She’s too private, and anyway, people don’t really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that’s a fitting ending for her."

Pugh's career has gone up and up of late. After her breakthrough performance in 'Lady Macbeth', she stunned audiences in horror movie 'Midsommar' and in 'Little Women' opposite Saoirse Ronan. She even earned an Oscar nomination for the latter.

'Black Widow' hits Irish cinemas on on October 30th, with previews on the the 28th and 29th.
