It’s on track to be the biggest February movie release ever.
Disney and Marvel executives will be singing all the way to the bank this week when they learn that Ryan Coogler’s superhero flick is expected to clear a whopping $205 million from its first four days on general release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther pulled in over $75 million on Friday alone making it the eighth-biggest single day of all time. Positive reviews and the long President’s Day weekend in the U.S has helped swelled the movies coffers.
Black Panther may even top another Marvel movie, The Avengers, for the best early showing of any superhero flick. The Joss Whedon helmed flick made $207 million in its opening weekend.
It is also performing strongly around the globe, pulling in a very healthy $81 million from overseas territories. Black Panther is also the biggest opening weekend ever for an African-American director in Ryan Coogler.
Earlier we brought you the news that Michael B. Jordan, who plays villain Killmonger, watched the movie undercover with fans on opening night.
It’s also gaining rave reviews from celebrities such as Captain Marvel herself Brie Larson who called on cinema goers to buy tickets for those who couldn’t afford them.
