"It kicks butt!"
The embargo is up on 'Birds of Prey' so reviews for the superhero flick are all over the place now.
To give it its full title, 'Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)' reviews are pretty positive overall. At the time of writing, it holds a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Entertainment.ie movie reviewer Deirdre Molumby gave the film 4 out of 5 stars in her review. She describes it as "an explosion of neon and glitter, jam-packed with kick ass action that truly is fantabulous."
The consensus with critics generally is that the Harley Quinn outing wasn't what they expected.
The flick sees Harley, now split up from Joker, team up with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) and Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) to save a young girl named Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from bad guy Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
Critics have noted the uneven nature of the movie and some expressed disappointment. It would seem that if you don't set your expectations high, you're more likely to enjoy it.
Here's what the critics had to say:
I went into #BirdsOfPrey with low expectations and ended up sincerely loving it - it's a little uneven, but good golly, it's SO much fun, and the cast is uniformly fantastic. Check out my full review: https://t.co/arIOBjEBaz pic.twitter.com/rqMbJUqPpU

#BirdsOfPreyMovie, with #MargotRobbie as Harley Quinn, is thin, lively, loud, brash, diverting, and forgettable. But it offers the empowerment of utter irresponsibility. Here's my @Variety review. https://t.co/FItotdzD7w

#BOP is a manic, colorful tale of badass women. Ewan McGregor is petty and delightful. Go. See. It. (And read my review.) @birdsofpreywb @FanSided_ENThttps://t.co/xfYlGq5Bp5

So hey: #BirdsofPrey rules! Incredible, insanely watchable misfits running amok in Gotham with badass martial arts action and killer cumbia needle drops. I hated the beginning and thought it was a disaster, but I stuck with it and came out adoring it https://t.co/qilfIPiMGI

No more puddin'. Harley Quinn and Joker have split up, and she's embracing her freedom in #BirdsOfPrey. https://t.co/gSiaovwPDH

#BirdsOfPrey is energetic in the extreme, but there is a clown-shaped absence at its center that’s kind of holding it back. https://t.co/EgO6A3H6AG

On BIRDS OF PREY, which has its moments if not as much daring as I'd like https://t.co/1J6rArLNmN

#BirdsOfPrey manages to be both too big and not big enough at the same time. What it is, is aggressively OK. https://t.co/ixPCfqVBSx @newscomauHQ
