Featuring an entire LGBTQ+ main cast
"We want you to write a rom-com about a gay couple. Something a straight guy might even like and watch with his girlfriend."
If you ever wondered what it might be like for a gay man to attempt to create a gay romantic comedy movie for a straight male audience... This will be your type of film. Or, if you're just into hilarious comedies, then it looks like 'Bros' will be your jam, judging by the trailer.
Billy Eichner (the guy who runs down the street shouting questions at people in New York City for 'Billy on the Street') stars, co-wrote and executive produces this latest effort from Universal Pictures, which is quite a momentous achievement. If you can believe it, in the year 2022, the film will be the first major studio romantic comedy centred around two gay men which has a main cast made up of the LGBTQ+ community. Not only that, but Eichner is the first openly gay man to both star and co-write in his own major studio film.
The premise of 'Bros' goes that Eichner's character Bobby is on the lookout for love, and there's a certain guy that could be the one. Luke Macfarlane (Netflix's recent 'Single All The Way') as Aaron is the one in question as they "maybe, possibly, probably" begin "stumbling towards love". However, they're both very busy.
Joining Eichner and Macfarlane for the comedy are Bowen Yang ('SNL'), Jim Rash ('Community'), TS Madison ('The TS Madison Experience'), Monica Raymund ('Chicago Fire'), Guillermo Díaz ('Scandal'), Guy Branum ('Gay of Thrones'), with Amanda Bearse ('Married …with Children') and many more.
Director Nicholas Stoller ('Forgetting Sarah Marshall') has teamed up with Judd Apatow ('Trainwreck', 'The Big Sick') alongside him as executive producer, with Stoller also writing the feature with Eichner.
Here's the 'Bros' trailer in all of its NSFW glory.
'Bros' hits Irish cinemas on October 28.
