Bill Murray in the MCU? Sign us up
It'll be a couple of years until we get to see 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania', with other Marvel movies arriving in cinemas first. Still, this casting announcement has us more excited for it than ever.
Bill Murray is set to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming 'Ant-Man' threequel.
The actor revealed the news in an interview with the German outlet Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (or FAZ), as translated by Variety.
Bill Murray currently stars in the new Wes Anderson movie 'The French Dispatch' and upon being asked about working with such directors as Anderson, Sofia Coppola and Jim Jarmusch multiple times, he ended up saying: "You know, recently I made a Marvel movie."
Presumably the actor signed some kind of NDA (as Marvel typically does with its stars) but hey, it's Bill Murray. The guy can do whatever the heck he likes.
In the interview, the actor continued: "I probably won’t tell you, but never mind. In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project.
"But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much.
"He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story 'Bring It On' he made a movie years ago which I think is damn good."
He added: "So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise… Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don’t think I need that experience a second time."
Peyton Reed, who directed 'Bring It On' as well as the two 'Ant-Man' movies thus far, returns to the helm for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania'.
Bill Murray joins Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, Kathryn Newton and Jonathon Majors in the cast.
'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' arrives in cinemas on July 28, 2023.
